Government abandons mandatory vaccination of health workers

Further to the update in last month’s newsletter regarding mandatory vaccination, following statutory consultation, the plan to make vaccinations mandatory for health workers (including NHS staff) has been abandoned.

This update also impacts care workers in CQC-regulated care homes who have been subject to mandatory vaccination since 11 November 2021, who are now no longer legally required to be vaccinated.

Whilst this is likely to welcome news for employers facing staffing issues, as outlined in our previous article, if an employer wants to implement mandatory vaccination within the workplace, there are ways and means to do this.

However, given this is a tricky area where employment issues can be encountered, it is recommended that advice is sought before taking steps to bring in mandatory vaccination in the workplace.
