Rise of the High Street

By April 7, 2016January 29th, 2021For Business

Muse Developments has been appointed by Hollins Murray Group to draw up new plans for the regeneration of the Longfield Shopping Centre in Prestwich, which has been the subject of a series of failed proposals.

Proposals for the seven-acre shopping centre site will now be developed by Muse in consultation with owner HMG and members and officers of Bury Council, in consultation with the people of Prestwich.

‘The High Street is dead’, they cried but there is mounting evidence to the contrary. Oldham, Rochdale and now Prestwich are seeing a substantial amount of money being pumped into their regeneration projects. These North Manchester town centres certainly felt the pinch during the recession, and certainly did not find a friend in internet shopping, the real advent of which was seen as businesses sought a way to bring down costs. This regeneration scheme promises a full compliment of mixed-use development, including residential units, office accommodation and (in the sameweek that Manchester has been named as the national leader in the hotelbusiness) a 70 bed hotel. We can only hope that this renewed investment is a sign of things to come!
