Founded by natural beauty pioneer Rivka Rose, Faith in Nature is an award-winning UK manufacturer of natural products for hair, body, baby and home.
Their mission is to produce effective, affordable products from naturally derived sources that are kind to both our skin and the planet.
The company was established in 1974 by Rivka Rose who had a vision for a beauty and skin care range using ingredients from natural sources, that were animal-cruelty free and of vegetable origin and were kind to the environment.
In the early 1970s Rivka began creating her own formulations and mixing them in her kitchen sink. Her first formulations included a face cream free from mineral oils an Organic Seaweed Shampoo followed.
From a kitchen sink in western Scotland with products sold from her rucksack as she travelled visiting health food shops, Rivka set up a small office and factory in Edinburgh and Faith Products, as the brand was then called, was born.
The business relocated to Radcliffe in 1989 and this is where all products are manufactured today, adhering to the same eco-friendly principles as when the business was first established.
Who are you and what is your business?
My name is Rivka Rose. 40 years’ ago I founded Faith Products, an award-winning UK manufacturer of natural products for hair, body, baby and home.
In 1974 I had a vision for a beauty and skin care range using ingredients from natural sources, that were animal-cruelty free and of vegetable origin and were kind to the environment.
I started small (very small), mixing my own formulations in my kitchen sink. Today we manufacture in Radcliffe and sell our range primarily through independent health food stores, but also in Boots, Asda, Tesco Direct, Ocado and Holland & Barrett. And, of course, direct to customers through our web site.
Which solicitors do you use at Glaisyers and how do you rate our service?
We have worked with Harvey Cohen for many years. He’s astute and approachable and always at the end of the phone when we need him! Thanks Harvey.
What are the biggest challenges you face in growing your business and maintaining profits?
The biggest challenge we face is securing listings in the multiples. If we are going to achieve significant growth then we need to secure more shelf space with the major supermarkets and chains such as Boots.
These sales channels are extremely difficult to get in to (although we have already been successful in some) and we know that they will squeeze our margins.
But what’s life without a challenge?
What is your greatest achievement in your business and personal life?
Being named Female Entrepreneur of the Year in 2011 by EN Magazine. Making a difference to so many people’s lives – our customers who love our products and benefit from them on a daily basis.
Do you find social media assists your business and if so, how?
Without doubt! It’s the modern way of communicating – instant and interactive and that’s what makes it fun.
We find that it’s a great way of spreading the word about our fabulous products and sharing what our customers say about them.
Where do you see Faith Products in 20 years’ time?
My vision for Faith Products is that we will become a household name, we want to share our lovely products with as many people as possible.
My legacy would be showing that it’s possible to produce products that are kind to our bodies and the environment too.
What are your passions away from business?
My passion for plants extends to my garden where I can happily spend hours working away – whatever the weather.
If you were Chancellor, what single change would you make to help improve the economy and/or business?
I would introduce policies and more financial incentives to encourage businesses (and individuals for that matter) to be more environmentally aware and responsible. Recycling should certainly be encouraged as significant savings can be made on raw materials, and the impact on the environment is vastly reduced – but we need more companies to get involved.
