More uncertainty for Moorside nuclear power plant

By May 17, 2017January 29th, 2021Commercial Property

The UK’s National Grid said today it has “paused” plans for grid infrastructure work needed for the Moorside nuclear power plant whilst developer NuGeneration (NuGen) conducts a strategic review of the project.

More uncertainty has dogged the plans for the construction of the Moorside power plant in Cumbria as National Grid have announced they are “pausing” their construction plans which would carry out the necessary infrastructure work while Toshiba carries out a strategic review. The nuclear industry is already currently mired in the uncertainty of losing EURATOM membership, let alone the wider implications of Brexit and the manifesto pledges in the run up to the general election. Rumours have been circulating that Toshiba would withdraw from all nuclear operations outside of Japan after making an expected loss of $8.4 billion so the announcement of a strategic review will not do much to shore up certainty.
