Affordable Justice

Posted by: Nick Johnson

In a world where certain lawyers work in a way which seek to maximise costs in litigation, which is often to the detriment of the client, the introduction of an online court could be seen to be in the interest of justice. While we await the detail I can see that we are providing affordable justice in the majority of cases. It is better that we have a system which allows access to some form of judicial process than none at all (which is currently happening in smaller cases)? Yes it may not be perfect, but it is affordable. We have to ask ourselves “should lawyers be doing this type of work”? Should we not be spending our time on the more complex claims which we were trained to deal with…

The City of London Law Society (CLLS) has thrown its backing behind the creation of an online court for claims up to £25,000, breaking ranks with the rest of the profession which has largely warned against it.
