Health & Welfare Decisions

Making decisions for a loved one who can no longer deal with their own affairs

Lasting Powers of attorney during Coronavirus Pandemic.

We continue to provide an expert power of attorney service. This is not affected by the Coronavirus pandemic.

A lasting power of attorney is an important document to let other people make decisions on your behalf if you don’t have mental capacity to make a decision or can’t express your wishes.

Health LPAs can cover all aspects of health and welfare from life sustaining treatment (such as ventilation or major operations) to more routine care matters such as where you live or how you are cared for.

Financial LPAs allow someone to manage your money, business or property while you are alive, but if you can’t deal with it yourself.

A lot of people are concerned that they can’t get legal help during the coronavirus pandemic but our power of attorney service is running as usual using video calls, phone and email to help you, instead of face to face meetings.

If you have an immediate need for a power of attorney please get in touch to discuss your concerns. Lasting Powers of Attorney can take time to set up as they have to be registered before they can be used, but there are other ways we can help support your health or financial decisions.

We want to work with you to make sure you have the protection and assistance you need, despite the restrictions caused by Covid-19.

At Glaisyers we know how stressful it can be if a person can’t make decisions for themselves about their health or welfare. You might want to make a decision for them or there could be a difference of opinion between family members, or with a medical practitioner. If you agree the appropriate way forward, the Court of Protection might have to make the decision in the person’s best interests.

If you are a financial Attorney or Deputy for someone, the law probably doesn’t allow you to make decisions about their health or welfare. The Court may need to make the decision unless they made a Lasting Power of Attorney for health and welfare.

Our Court of Protection specialists will help you to work out which decisions you can make. We will deal with your situation sensitively and will deal with all of the practicalities if you need to apply to Court.

Call our Lasting Power of Attorney team on 0161 832 4666, who will be happy to talk things through with you and offer free, no obligation advice or complete the online enquiry form and one of our team will get in touch for a no obligation chat.
