Wills, Trusts & Estate Planning

Making a Will is a straightforward process for many people, and once completed, you have the peace of mind of knowing that your wishes will be followed.  In addition, a properly drafted Will can protect your estate against inheritance tax and other liabilities.

Yet in spite of this 70% of people still die without having made adequate provision to safeguard their assets by making a Will.  As a result of this families are often left to sort out their affairs.

The failure to make a Will means that your estate will be distributed according to complicated and rigid statutory rules which can often result in your assets being shared among those that you might not otherwise wish to benefit.

Inheritance Tax (IHT) is payable at a rate of 40% on assets over and above the inheritance tax threshold (£300,000 for the tax year 2007-2008).  Because of increasing house prices, this tax is payable on an increasing number of estates where it could be easily and legitimately avoided or minimised.  We can help to make provisions in order to reduce or eradicate IHT liabilities.

A Bespoke Wills Service
Every client has his or her own individual needs and requirements when making a Will.  Glaisyers places great emphasis on ensuring that a highly personal service is given to each client whilst keeping the service as simple and cost effective as possible.

When you instruct Glaisyers to prepare your Will we will send you a factsheet which contains details of all matters that you ought to consider before your initial appointment.  Our specialists will then discuss with you all of the details of your Will and provide advice o any aspects on which you may be unclear.  The completed Will is then stored at no additional cost and a copy is provided for your records.

As part of Glaisyers’ ongoing commitment to client care, a free review service is offered on a periodic basis to ensure that your Will remains valid and relevant in light of changes to the law or your personal circumstances.  For clients who are unable to get to the office, a home visit can be arranged.
